A Small Experiment

Hello and Welcome to Small Favors!

Today, I'm embarking on a small experiment, and ironically enough, I need all of your help to get it off and running. You see, this morning I had a remarkably interesting conversation with my good friend, Buffalo (sorry no real names here folks!). I was explaining how, despite always wanting to get involved and "do" something for the world, I never seem to actually do it. Some projects strike me as misguided, others are "too much" or "too hard". And so, I always have an excuse not to do the very thing I say I want to do; help. At one point, I said to Buffalo, "Even if I could just do something really small, but do it really well, I think that would be enough. Don't you?" And that's when he told me that he'd seen a news report the other day about how a Nepali man had moved to the US in order to work. As mother's day rolled around, the man wanted to go home, or at the very least send something to his mother to let her know that despite the distance, he hadn't forgotten her. But of course, cash was short, so he couldn't even afford a small gift. A popular website here in Nepal heard the story and on the man's behalf sent her a small gift. Was the gift expensive? Probably not. Was it a hardship for anyone? Nope, not really. Did it matter? I think so. And thus was born the idea for this blog.

I'm admitting right from the start this is an experiment, and it could completely fail. There may not be any requests, or I may find myself unable to do even "small favors", but I'm going to give it a try any how. If you're interested in joining me somehow, or you've got any ideas of your own you'd like to share, I'm happy to talk with you. More importantly, if there's a small favor I can do for you or someone you know, let me know. I'll see what I can do.

Well, here's hoping!
